Smith Chosen for Executive Director of Student Services Position

Mary SmithThe Northwest R-I Board of Education has approved Mary Smith as the district’s new Executive Director of Student Services. 

Smith is currently the principal of Brennan Woods Elementary in the Northwest district, a position she has held since 2019. Prior to Northwest, she was a building principal at Vineland Elementary in the DeSoto School District from 2017-19. She was an assistant principal and director of special education for kindergarten through eighth grade from 2012 through 2017 at Carondelet Leadership Academy. Smith was an A+ Coordinator in the Sedalia School District from 2007-10, and from 2001-2007, she was the assistant principal and director of special education at Carver Middle School in Springfield, Mo. Smith was also a special education teacher in the Fox-C6 School District for kindergarten through sixth grade from 1997 through 2001. 

Smith has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Lindenwood University, a Specialization in Special Education - Grades K-12, and a Master’s in Administration - Elementary from Southwest Baptist University.  

“I have had the wonderful opportunity of working with the amazing students, families and staff at Brennan Woods Elementary for the last three years. I will truly miss the daily interactions with all of those I have worked with at Brennan Woods,” said Smith. “I am so excited about the opportunity to work hard in my new position to continue to move the district forward.”

Smith will begin her new position on July 1, 2022.
