Viehland Selected to be Northwest High School Principal

Dr. Stella ViehlandThe Northwest R-I Board of Education has approved Dr. Stella Viehland as the new principal of Northwest High School effective July 1, 2022. Viehland will replace Mr. Brad Snell, who is retiring effective June 30, 2022. Snell has served as the principal of Northwest High School since 2007. 

Viehland has served as an Assistant Principal at Northwest High School since 2013. Prior to her current role, she was an Assistant Principal at Lindbergh High School for eight years. Viehland taught high school English at Northwest and Lindbergh while also serving as cheerleading coach, yearbook sponsor, and Student Council sponsor. 

As an administrator, Dr. Viehland earned a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from Maryville University in 2009. She earned her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Maryville University in 2004, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English Education from Missouri Baptist University in 2000. She has also served as a mentor administrator to three new administrators in neighboring school districts.

“The opportunity to serve as the principal of Northwest High School is indeed a full circle moment, and it is my intention to continue the good work of helping students set and reach their own goals,” said Viehland, a Northwest alumna. “I am inspired daily by the caring and dedicated Northwest staff who engage our students in skill development each day in order to prepare them for future success.” 

Dr. Viehland resides within the district in Catawissa with her husband, Chad, and two sons, both of whom attend Northwest High School. Viehland is an active member of the Northwest Alumni Association and enjoys hosting the annual Alumni Hall of Fame Night.
