What happens to my insurance benefits when I retire?
Medical Coverage:
Retirees must be offered the same premiums as active employees. You can continue your medical insurance through the district as long as you:Elect coverage within 1 year of your retirement.
Pay monthly premiums via ACH deduction (deducted between the 5th–8th of each month).
Dental and Vision:
If you currently have these, you can keep them.Life and Disability Insurance:
Ends on your last day worked (includes both short-term and long-term disability).
Where can I view the insurance rates?
Can I switch plans later?
Yes, during:
Open Enrollment
Or if you have a qualifying life event (must notify us within 30 days).
What happens to my spouse’s coverage if I drop mine?
Your spouse’s coverage ends immediately if you drop yours.
Coverage cannot be reinstated for either of you after you have dropped it.
What happens to my spouse’s coverage if I pass away?
If your spouse receives a PSRS/PEERS benefit, they may keep coverage indefinitely.
If not, they may continue coverage via COBRA for up to 36 months.
