Low/Negative Food Service Account Balances

Northwest is committed to taking care of our pride of lions. Part of our commitment is ensuring all students have access to nutritious meals daily. The Food Service Department is engaged in working with families to keep them informed of their child(ren)'s Food Service Account balances.

Access To Nutritious Meals

A vital part of the school day are our meal services. Students having access to nutritious meals is essential for their overall well being and academic success. Because we understand some of our families may struggle with food security or finances, Northwest allows a student with a zero or negative Food Service Account balance to get one breakfast meal and one lunch meal per day.

A La Carte items, extra sides, extra entrees, or a second meal is not reimbursable by the USDA nor is an option available for students with zero or negative balances.

If you find you are encountering food security or financial struggles, please contact your child's school's Social Worker. The District Social Workers are employed by Northwest and in place to assist families in need. One of the ways they can assist is directing families in need to available resources. If you or you know of another student's household who is experiencing food insecurity or financial struggles, please visit our Resources Page for helpful information. You can also call your child's school Administrative Assistant or the Food Service Administrative Assistant 636-677-3473 x 21126 someone can help put you in touch with a district Social Worker.

Account Balance Communication

The Food Service Department has scheduled a weekly balance reminder email and text message for all parents/guardians of students with positive or negative balances. This communication is sent every Friday in effort to ensure parents/guardians are aware of where their child(ren)'s account balance is standing.

Food Service Unit Leaders in each school are to contact parents/guardians via a phone call or email message when the Food Service Account has a negative balance of $10. When the account reaches a negative balance of $15 or more, Unit Leaders are to notify their school's administrators who will contact the parent/guardian.

Elementary School Unit Leaders are to send a low balance memo to the student's teacher to be placed in the student's binder which is sent home daily. Account balance information will not be shared at the register with Elementary Students, unless a student asks a question about their account. Food Service Cashiers at the Middle and High Schools are to inform students at the register when their account balance drops to $10 or less.

In conjunction with the weekly communications parents/guardians receive, they can also access the Infinite Campus Parent Portal to stay up to date on their child(ren)'s Food Service Account balances and view their Food Service transactions.
