  • The Maintenance Department

    The Maintenance Department keeps all 11 facilities in the Northwest R-I School District running smoothly. District buildings range in age from pre-1954 to 2000, including 989,315 total square feet, and 246 acres of grounds. The department handles building repairs including furniture needs, playground equipment upkeep, HVAC systems, plumbing, doors and windows, locks, carpentry needs, delivery of district mail, and remodeling projects. The department is also responsible for grounds maintenance, including field care for sports.  The department strives to utilize current facilities to their fullest extent through regular maintenance.

  • The Custodial Department

    The Custodial Department is responsible for keeping the 989,315 square feet of classrooms, offices, common and athletic areas clean and germ free. This work is done on a daily basis when school is in session. Special projects such as stripping and waxing floors are completed during the the summer months. The department also spends time during winter and spring breaks completing larger cleaning projects. Custodial service hours are primarily from 6:00 am until 11:30 pm, Monday through Friday. However, there is rarely a time, day or night, weekday or weekend, that a custodian is not working somewhere in the district. Someone in the custodial department is on call 24 hours a day to handle a variety of situations and emergencies. Custodians are also present at all activities and outside group events.
