Our Science Department helps our students to be effective and productive citizens in the local, national, and global communities. We design our science education to prepare students to succeed regardless of their postsecondary goals, incorporating various opportunities for students to explore, investigate, and ask questions. We want students to be proud of the work they do, and we hold them accountable for their own learning. We design lessons that effectively instruct students in generating hypotheses, collecting data, and managing data. Students participate in activities in which they must interpret data and draw conclusions. Even though some students may say they aren’t going to be a scientist, in actuality, we are all scientists. Our future demands a citizenry that is informed and can think critically, and our department strives to produce this quality in our students.
Our Science Department also offers two strands of the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program.
- Biomedical Sciences - PLTW Biomedical Science students are taking on these same real-world challenges – and they’re doing it before they even graduate from high school. Working with the same tools used by professionals in hospitals and labs, students engage in compelling, hands-on activities and work together to find solutions to problems. Students take from the courses in-demand knowledge and skills they will use in high school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take.
- Engineering - PLTW Engineering empowers students to step into the role of an engineer, adopt a problem-solving mindset, and make the leap from dreamers to doers. The program’ s courses engage students in compelling, real-world challenges that help them become better collaborators and thinkers. Students take from the courses in-demand knowledge and skills they will use in high school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take.
