Mr. Ernest Motley
Hello and welcome from Murphy Elementary School! My name is Ernest Motley, principal at Murphy, and this is my opportunity to share with you a little about me and even more so about how awesome Murphy is for all who get the chance to experience a school where learning can be FUN!
This is my 27th year as an educator and I’m excited about my new opportunity to work in the Northwest School District! School leadership is my passion and is something that I have been blessed to do serving previously as principal at Green City R-1, Macon R-1 and Kirksville R-III. I am married to Marilyn Motley, an elementary music teacher in the Union R-XI School District, and we have three sons.
When I accepted the position here at Murphy, people began to tell me what a wonderful place Murphy was and that our students and staff were AMAZING. It did not take me long to realize that what I was hearing was FOR REAL! I already love it here and I look forward to the 2019-20 school year and the exciting work that our students and staff will accomplish.
There is so much more that I could share about Murphy...things like our Leader In Me structure, our research-based quality Instructional Programs, our amazing PTO organization and so much more but instead, I invite you to experience it for yourself. You WILL love it!

Ms. Katie Dunlap
Welcome to Murphy Elementary! I am thrilled to be the Assistant Principal at such an amazing school. I started my career as a Kindergarten teacher at a St. Louis City charter school, where I also taught 2nd grade prior to moving on. My career then took me to Grandview R-2 School District where I also taught Kindergarten. I was fortunate enough to move to Murphy Elementary as a Kindergarten teacher in 2017. My dream job has always been to be an elementary teacher and I am so thankful to get to live that dream daily. As I got further into my career, my dream went from teaching to becoming an administrator. I am so proud to say that I get to start my Administrative career with Northwest R-1 School District!
I am a graduate of the nearby, Rockwood Summit High School. I earned my Bachelor's degree from Missouri Baptist University in Elementary Education with a certification in Early Childhood. I also earned my Masters degree from Missouri Baptist University in Elementary Administration. I reside in High Ridge with my overly-energetic puppy, Sarge!
The elementary school years are, in my opinion, some of the most influential years in a child’s educational career. As the Assistant Principal, I will work to support students both academically, socially, and emotionally. I believe in the potential of each student, and realize we are not just preparing them for the next grade, but for the future. This preparation will include experiences that are challenging, relevant, and meet the needs of the individual student.
I cannot wait to spend this year watching your student(s) learn and grow on a daily basis. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions or if I can be of assistance to you. Here’s to a great 2019-2020 school year!
