• 1) Who can attend Lion Care?

    Children kindergarten-fifth grade at all of our elementary schools and children attending at Early Childhood Center.

    2) How do I get my child registered?

    Fill out an enrollment form for each child, include a check for $15.00 per family and mail to the address provided on the enrollment form. There are separate forms for ECC and the elementary schools. Checks should be made out to Northwest School District. This form can be found in the "Registration Forms" section of this page.

    3) How long has before and after school child care been offered at Northwest?

    Before and after school child care has been a part of the Northwest School District for over 20 years. Prior to March 2005, the program was offered through the YMCA. Beginning in March 2005, Northwest began operating the program. 

    4) What programs are available to assist my child?

    Lion Care assist children with social interaction and homework in a fun, safe environment. We are available for children who attend after school club meetings, or for children who have special needs. Lion Care may also be an option for families who need to have an emergency back-up plan, even though their children will not usually attend our program. The program and its staff will do our best to accommodate the family and child's need.

    5) What will my child do in Lion Care?

    Our trained, caring, professional staff offer planned recreational enhancement activities focusing on fun, learning, and the development of a positive self-image. Children are encouraged to choose between tabletop games, crafts, and activities, rug activities, and group games. When the weather permits, staff will take students outside to play.

    6) What are the hours of operation?

    Early Childhood Center morning session 6:15 am - 8:45 am / afternoon session 3:00 pm - 6:15 pm

    Elementary Schools morning session  6:15 am - 8:30 am / afternoon session 3:25 pm - 6:15 pm, except Maple Grove which has a morning session from 6:00 am-8:30 am

    7) Does the program accept Division of Social Services (DSS) assistance?

    Yes, we are approved for DSS.

    8) Can you tell me a little about the staff?

    The staff has an average of 12 years of child care experience and live in the Northwest District. Many of our staff are Northwest alumni whose children attend or have graduated from Northwest. All of the staff are required to participate in extensive professional development in the child care field. Many of our staff have early childhood education college credit hours and some have college degrees.
